Ingredients
Scale
For the Tea:
- 2 black tea bags (or loose-leaf black tea, about 2 teaspoons)
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
For the Milk and Blue Color:
- 1 cup whole milk (or your preferred milk alternative like oat or almond milk)
- 1/4 teaspoon blue spirulina powder (for that stunning blue color)
- 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk (optional for extra sweetness)
For the Tapioca Pearls:
- 1/2 cup tapioca pearls (available at most grocery stores or Asian supermarkets)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for syrup)
- 1 cup water
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Tapioca Pearls
- Boil Water: In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the tapioca pearls.
- Cook the Pearls: Let the pearls cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. You’ll know they’re ready when they float to the top and become translucent.
- Make the Syrup: Drain the cooked pearls and transfer them into a small bowl. In the same saucepan, dissolve 2 tablespoons of brown sugar in a little water to make a syrup, then pour it over the pearls.
- Set Aside: Let the tapioca pearls sit in the syrup as you prepare the rest of the drink.
Step 2: Brew the Tea
- Steep the Tea: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, then pour it over the black tea bags in a heatproof container. Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like it.
- Sweeten the Tea: Remove the tea bags and stir in honey or sugar to taste. Allow the tea to cool slightly.
Step 3: Prepare the Milk
- Mix the Milk and Spirulina: In a separate glass or bowl, combine the milk and blue spirulina powder. Stir well until the powder is fully dissolved, creating that beautiful blue color.
- Add Condensed Milk: If you’re using sweetened condensed milk, add a tablespoon or two for extra richness and sweetness.
Step 4: Assemble the Blue Milk Tea
- Layer the Drink: In two large glasses, add a generous portion of the cooked tapioca pearls. Pour the sweetened tea over the pearls, filling each glass halfway.
- Add the Blue Milk: Gently pour the blue milk into each glass, layering it on top of the tea. For a fun effect, you can pour the milk slowly along the inside of the glass to create a gradient.
- Stir and Enjoy: Give your drink a quick stir to combine the tea and milk, and you’re ready to sip away!
