Scale
For the Hot Chocolate:
- 2 cups whole milk (or any milk of your choice)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup Amaretto liqueur
- Pinch of salt
For Topping (Optional):
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder
- Mini marshmallows
- Crushed almonds (optional, for extra nutty flavor)
Instructions
Make the Hot Chocolate
- Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.
- Whisk in Cocoa Powder and Sugar: Add the cocoa powder, sugar, and pinch of salt to the warm milk. Whisk continuously until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add the Amaretto: Stir in the amaretto liqueur and vanilla extract. Let the mixture heat for another minute, making sure everything is well incorporated.
- Taste and Adjust: Give the hot chocolate a taste, and if you’d like it sweeter, feel free to add more sugar. If you prefer a stronger amaretto flavor, you can adjust the amount of liqueur as well.
- Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, filling them about three-quarters full, so there’s room for toppings.
Add Toppings
- Top with Whipped Cream: Add a generous dollop of whipped cream on top of each mug for an extra creamy texture.
- Sprinkle with Chocolate Shavings: Add a sprinkle of chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for an elegant touch.
- Optional Garnishes: If you’re feeling extra indulgent, add a few mini marshmallows or crushed almonds for a little extra flavor and crunch.
